A long time ago, Snake and Millipede were the best of friends. They were so close that Millipede’s children could visit Snake’s home, play there, and return without any trouble.
In those days, Snake was blessed with legs, and Millipede was blessed with eyes. Even though they were friends, they lived in different villages.
One day, Snake received an invitation to attend Chicken’s wedding. But there was one special rule: all guests had to have eyes so they could see the bride and groom and enjoy the celebration.
Millipede and his family were not invited, but Snake began to worry—
“How will I go to the wedding without eyes?”
So, Snake decided to visit his friend Millipede before the wedding and ask for help.
When Snake arrived, Millipede welcomed him warmly. Snake explained,
“Dear friend, please lend me your eyes just for the wedding.”
Millipede thought for a while and said,
“I can lend you my eyes, but you must give me your legs in return. That way, I can walk around like you.”
Snake agreed. They exchanged eyes and legs.
For the first time in his life, Snake could see! He was amazed at the beauty of the world and felt so happy. He went to the wedding and celebrated with great joy.
But after the wedding, Snake thought,
“Eyes are more useful than legs. I will keep them.”
He never returned Millipede’s eyes. Millipede was very sad. Without eyes, he could no longer see, but there was nothing he could do.
And that is why, even today, Snake moves on its belly but can see everything, while Millipede has many legs but cannot see.
Moral of the Story:
Always be honest and keep your promises. Lying and breaking trust are wrong.
